Jacoba Istel
Jacoba Istel-Slooten studied architecture at the University of Wuppertal and graduated as an architect from the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture in 2023.
In her graduation project she explored the interplay between landscape and architecture – a theme that continues to shape her work.
She gained experience in both architectural and landscape projects, developing into a technically skilled and socially engaged designer.
For Jacoba, architecture, urbanism, and landscape cannot be seen as separate disciplines when addressing today’s ecological and social challenges.
The overlap of disciplines is also represtend in her work which ranges from transformations in historic contexts, to the design of gardens, housing, landscapes, schools, bridges, and more.
Jacoba lives on the former island of Marken, in a historic house surrounded by the Waterland landscape. Daily life with her husband and their dog, close to nature and heritage, nourishes her passion for places where people, environment, and history come together.
